The strength of PKI technology depends on the adequate protection of cryptographic keys.
The smartcard -- be it a card, USB token or of a virtual type - physically protect secrets, and provides a standard set of functions to cryptographic applications. In practice they can be used to login to a computer, to authenticate on a web site or to sign our documents, programme codes digitally.
At the workshop I will review the functions of a smartcard, its life cycle, and how we can use them in practice. After creating an own certificate based on a key on the smartcard, I will present the usage for authentication and signing.
You need an own smartcard, reader and the corresponding driver to follow the live presentation.
